Question:
I am starting up a home gym in my spare room as I am having trouble losing my baby weight — my son is now eight months old. I have purchased an exercise bike, lateral thigh trainer, cross trainer and an Ab swing. I have also bought a skipping rope and two 2kg weights (will purchase more once I get used to it) and I have a mini HiFi system and TV/DVD player with yoga, Pilates and fit-to-strip DVDs. I know this seems like a lot of stuff, but I wanted to know what else I should buy and also what machine/exercise is best to tone my baby belly and thighs?

Answer:
You have done well with your choice of home exercise equipment for the aerobic side of things as the cross trainer and exercise bike will be good for variety, but don't forget to also include lots of walking to burn more calories.

You now need to focus on equipment to tone those muscles, this is where strength training comes in. You should look at buying a workout bench with an incline option and leg extension as this will allow you to include more exercises in your routine.

You will also need a selection of dumbbells for different muscles groups. Three, four and five-kilogram dumbbells will be good to start with, while an exercise ball will be great for the abs, legs, lower back and core region.

Mix this up with your DVDs and your home gym is looking very impressive!
